Selena Gomez is facing a new death threat, sources confirm, and this one is a lot more serious than any Twitter messages left by Justin Bieber fans.

According to TMZ, LAPD's Threat Management Unit has responded to a restraining order obtained by Gomez against a 46-year old crazy person named Thomas Brodnicki.

Brodnicki was reportedly picked up for mental evaluation last month after threatening to "scratch people's eyes out on the street." During sessions with a psychologist, he allegedly said he traveled to Los Angeles to meet Selena; visited her place of work on three occasions; and talked with God about murdering the singer.

Court documents reveal that Gomez is living in "extreme fear" of this taunt and that detectives are taking it seriously. Brodnicki has a history of mental illness and of issuing criminal threats.

reports that exiled Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi is dead have now been confirmed. There's photo and video evidence, and it is graphic.
Unlike photo or video evidence of the death of Osama bin Laden, which was never released to the public, Al Jazeera has already aired it this afternoon.
News outlets across the world are reporting the story along with a photo of bloody, dying Moammar Gadhafi, moments after he was captured in Libya.

Libyan officials have confirmed Gadhafi was shot to death when rebels pulled him out of a storm drain near his home town of Sirte early this morning.
We've posted the photo and video of Gadhafi's dead body taken immediately after the 69-year-old despot was killed. Be forewarned, both are graphic:

some respons:

Kevin you are absolutely right. I am not saying this wasnt the best end. I DO believe some people just deserve to die, Manson, Hitler, etc. but to publicly celebrate it whilst spreading his dead body just kinda makes me sick. The human race isn't going to make it."

Just lowered them to his level of cruelty and despotism in my opinion. And they want to rebuild peace and tranquility from a barbaric act like this. Mark my words, I bet it won't happen. In 10-12 years, we'll just see more of the same for these people with another ruler gone bad, because negative equals negative; negative never equals positive.

While I applaud their victory, I certainly don't applaud their treatment of the old and dead. It's uncivilized barbarism at its peak, and it has to stop if a society ever wants to evolve into a civilized one. The guy should have been given a trial and then hung.

When the strong man armed himself, and the stronger than he disarmed him, he will definitely destroy him, his house and all his goods. Ghadafi is good for you.

Nemesis wont overturn without repentance,GHadafi may be dead but the libyans should not jubilate over the death of a man who had stood up his arrogant head against external dictators.institutionalizing the country like Libya will carry heavy task ,a state in fragility .

absolutely right. I am not saying this wasnt the best end. I DO believe some people just deserve to die, Manson, Hitler, etc. but to publicly celebrate it whilst spreading his dead body just kinda makes me sick. The human race isn't going to make it. ... READ MORE

Miss Universe Body Paint Controversy

Miss Universe Body Paint Controversy

That's the question directed at Miss Universe these days, as the organization has posed most of its 2010 contestants in almost nothing but body paint for a new set of promotional images.

Miss USA, Rima Fakih, and Miss Trinidad and Tobago, LaToya Woods, show off these looks in the examples below:

Some think these photos go too far.

"It's alarming that this has been turned into a Playboy-esque masquerade," Angie Meyer, a former pageant employee, told Fox News. "By implementing topless photos as part of the pageant process, they're putting applicants in an extremely compromising position."

As opposed to the bathing suit and evening gown segments of the event, which place contestants in uncompromising positions and are not based on appearances?

Responded Lark-Marie Anton, vice president of marketing and public relations for the organization, to the charges of inappropriateness:

"The contestants who compete at Miss Universe are diverse, as they represent more than 82 countries around the globe. Many of their cultures embrace nudity... We feel the images captured are fashionable and cutting edge!"

Muammar Gaddafi ruled Libya as the African country's dictator for more than four decades before he was overthrown and then killed in 2011. Born a Bedouin tribesman, Muammar Gaddafi attended military college and almost immediately set about plotting to overthrow Libya's ruler, King Idris I. He succeeded in 1969, taking power in a bloodless coup. Muammar Gaddafi was 27. He took the title of colonel, and in the 1970s he seemed to have philosophical pretentions, publishing his so-called Green Book of political philosophy and leading Libya in a path of "Islamic socialism" while ruthlessly suppressing dissent. But in the 1980s he tangled with the U.S. and President Ronald Reagan; Reagan called Gaddafi "the mad dog of the Middle East" and ordered U.S. Air Force bombings in Tripoli in 1986 that killed Gaddafi's daughter. The 1988 bombing of a Pan Am passenger airplane over Lockerbie, Scotland, was blamed on Libyan terrorists, which led to international sanctions on Libya throughout the 1990s. Libya took responsibilty for the bombings in 2003, easing the sanctions and leading to better relations with the West. Throughout all, Muammar Gaddafi remained firmly in power and built a reputation as a shrewd, if eccentric, dictator. In 2011, he attacked protesters in his own country, leading an allied group of Arab and Western countries to attack Libyan air defenses and establish a "no-fly zone" over Libya. Rebel forces overran Tripoli in August of 2011. Gaddafi escaped, but two months later he was wounded in battle by rebel forces after being cornered near his home town of Sirte; he reportedly was captured and then died of his wounds shortly thereafter.

Muammar Gaddafi was born in the desert, so no specific place of birth can be listed; the BBC and other sources say it was near the town of Sirte... His son, Seif al-Islam el-Gaddafi, was widely seen as his successor before the rebellion of 2011 ended that idea... His Arabic name has been translated variously as Quaddafi, Qaddafi, and Khaddafi as well as Gaddafi and al-Gaddafi... He was famous for his all-female contingent of bodyguards, and for his habit of receiving visitors in a Bedouin-style tent.

Moammar Gadhafi's blood-streaked body has been stashed in a commercial freezer at a shopping center as Libyans try to keep it away from crowds as they figure out where and when to bury the hated leader.... READ MORE

They're going to need an army to stop us now. A few cops won't make a difference." (OWS protester/NY Post)

CHICAGO, October 16, 2011—If this is a peaceful, what would a violent protest look like?

Occupy Wall Street is far from peaceful. It seems designed to provoke, wreak havoc, and create chaos. The protesters do as they please. Law? They think they are the law.

Make no mistake: This is no unorganized, leaderless mob. There is leadership in place, it is well funded, and it is professionally trained to incite and create chaos. That is their intent.

Consider Lisa Fithian. Fithian is a professional protester who started her career in the 1970s. She was part and parcel of that violent era, and since then has created an impressive resumé of arrests. She sees to it she is arrested at most protests she attends.

Fithian instructs organizers in the fine art of chaos, disruption, and playing the media She's found that these tactics work. She has been advising OWS and was in Chicago last week to train protesters at Teamster City. ... READ MORE

According to the gossip site, Johansson now plans to involve the FBI in what she believes should be a criminal investigation.

Celebrity hacking has been a hot-button issue lately. In August, more than 100 personal photos of "Dancing with the Stars" beauty Julianne Hough were leaked as were topless pictures of 21-year-old rapper Kreayshawn.

"It's frustrating," actor Cris Judd, whose phone number was leaked by the same hackers, told The Daily News at the time. "It's like identity theft. But how do you stand up to people like this? My solution is to not put any energy toward it and hopefully it will shrivel." Johansson's rep has yet to comment on the matter.

Denver Broncos’ QB Kyle Orton imploded Sunday, and was replaced by Tim Tebow. It’s a bit surprising Brady Quinn didn’t get the call – at times, Quinn outplayed Tebow in the preseason – but at 1-4, it’s all about trying to get fans into the stadium to watch a bad team, so Tebow makes sense. I wonder – if Brady Quinn had replaced Orton, would he still have hopped on the red eye to be by the side of Alicia Sacramone, his girlfriend, for her surgery in Charlotte?

Of course, it is entirely possible that Quinn had booked the ticket in advance – the Broncos do have a bye next week – because he hadn’t anticipated Kyle Orton turning into the below-average QB he was in Chicago.

Leaving Home for Sex both Cosmopolitanism or sex trafficking

Leaving Home for Sex both Cosmopolitanism or sex trafficking
lifestyle,lifes,women,scandals,celebritys,artist,wife,family,politicians,married,bisnis,onlines,vids,pics,magazine,arts

women should so overwhelmingly be seen as pushed, obligated, coerced or forced when they leave home for the same reason as men: to get ahead through work.

Sex trafficking and human trafficking were not words on everyone’s lips when I wrote the above ten years ago. I was trying to figure out what was special and problematic about migrants who sell sex, believing that migrants are migrants, no matter what jobs they end up getting (including prostitution or sex work). Nowadays, a lot of the social conflict is about statistics: how many are trafficked, how many are illegal migrants. But even more it is about definitions, world views, ideas about sex and money, the insistence that a particular cultural view should be everyone’s.

Most conversations about migrants who sell sex present black-and-white versions of something that is almost entirely grey. For moral crusaders who would rush to legislation or attempt to prove that one sort of law is better than others, my vision is not satisfying. I say Stop, slow down. Until you comprehend the myriad elements present amongst people who leave home to go to another country and sell sex, you shouldn’t be passing laws about them. Of any kind. This is not useless postmodern dithering but the position that until you understand the minimum about how people experience their own lives you cannot responsibly take actions to help them. If you don’t care what they say themselves then don’t talk about helping and admit that control is what you want: the power to make people stop doing what you don’t approve of and start doing something else, whether they want to or not.

Leaving Home for Sex is the first piece I published that defined what my work would be for the next few years. At the time it was unusual not to use the term prostitute, but I also didn’t just substitute the term sex worker. Instead, I tried to describe how selling sex can be an occupation that works out all right for migrant women without their taking on a definite identity based on it. You will see ‘Challenging place’ in the original title because the piece was written for a special journal issue on women and place – the local and the global. I suggested that migrant workers didn’t fit into that framework but could sometimes be viewed as cosmopolitan subjects: that neither poverty nor bad jobs nor lack of complete ‘choice’ over your life prevents you from also becoming cosmopolitan. Leaving Home for Sex

Laura Mª Agustín, Development, 45.1, 110-117 (2002).

As soon as people migrate, there is a tendency to sentimentalise their home. Warm images are evoked of close families, simple household objects, rituals, songs, foods.[1] Many religious and national holidays, across cultures, reify such concepts

f ‘home’ and ‘family’, usually through images of a folkoric past. In this context, migration is constructed as a last-ditch or desperate move and migrants as deprived of the place they ‘belong to’.Yet for millions of people all over the world, the birth and childhood place is not a feasible or desirable one in which to undertake more adult or ambitious projects, and moving to another place is a conventional—not traumatic—solution.

How does this decision to move take place? Earthquakes, armed conflict, disease, lack of food impel some people in situations that seem to involve little element of choice or any time to ‘process’ options: these people are sometimes called refugees. Single men’s decisions to travel are generally understood to evolve over time, the product of their ‘normal’ masculine ambition to get ahead through work: they are called migrants. Then there is the case of women who attempt to do the same.

Research in a marginal place: Geographies of exclusion

For some time I worked in educación popular in Latin America and the Caribbean and with latino migrants in North America and Europe, in programmes dedicated to literacy, AIDS prevention and health promotion, preparation for migration and concientización (whose exact translation does not exist in English but combines something about consciousness-raising with something about ‘empowerment’). My concern about the vast difference between what first-world social agents (governmental, NGO workers, activists) say about women migrants and what women migrants say about themselves led me to study and testify on these questions. I have deliberately located myself on the border of both groups: the migrants and the social, in Europe, where the only jobs generally available to migrant women are in the domestic, ‘caring’ and sex industries. My work examines both the social and the migrants, so I spend time in brothels, bars, houses, offices, ‘outreach’ vehicles and ‘the street’, in its many versions. Data on what migrant women say come from my own research and others’ in many countries of the European Union; women have also been interviewed before or after migrating in Latin America, Eastern Europe, Asia and Africa. Data on what social agents say come from my own research with those who work on prostitution issues in those countries, including as evaluator of projects for the International Labour Office and the European Commission.

Although researchers and NGO personnel have been working with migrant prostitutes for nearly twenty years in Europe, publication of their findings remains outside mainstream press and journals. Most of the people who have met and talked with many migrant prostitutes are neither academics nor writers. ‘Outreach’ is conceptualised as distinct from ‘research’ and generally funded as HIV/AIDS prevention. This means that the published products of outreach research are generally limited to information on sexual health and practices; the other many kinds of information collected remain unpublished. Some of those who work in these projects have the chance to meet and exchange such information, but most do not. Recently, a new kind of researcher has entered the field, usually young academic women studying sociology or anthropology and working on migrations. These researchers want to do justice to the reality around them, which they recognise as consisting of as many migrant prostitutes as migrant domestic/‘caring’ workers. Most of these researchers do oral histories and some have begun to publish but it will be some time before such findings are recognised. Stigma works in all kinds of ways, among them the silencing of results that do not fit hegemonic discourses.[2] The mainstream complaint says ‘the data is not systematised’ or ‘there is no data.’ In my research, I seek out such ‘marginalised’ results.

Discourses of leaving home

It seems like there are "lists" for every scenario. It also seems like Chicago Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano(notes) has been on just about all of them at one time or another. After his actions against the Atlanta Braves and subsequently in the clubhouse, Zambrano has a new list to add to his repertoire: the disqualified list.

So what exactly is the disqualified list? Well, it means Zambrano will be unable to participate in any type of team activity for 30 days -which was the duration the Cubs placed on him. It also means he doesn't get pay. After a rocky night against the Atlanta Braves, which ended with his ejection in the fifth inning, Zambrano went back into the clubhouse, collected his things, and told those present that he was retiring. To that I say fine and good riddance.

Zambrano's agent, Barry Praver, says the pitcher is not retiring, despite Zambrano's comments.

Zambrano's Cubs teammates weren't as kind. Pitcher Ryan Dempster(notes) said "He's made his stance pretty clear with what he wanted to do. He's probably got a lot to find out about. He can go do that." Alfonso Soriano(notes) added "he's been doing a lot of things, not once or twice, gotta think a little bit more. He's a big man, but I think that mentally he's weak."

Honestly, I think Cubs fans have been more than patient with Zambrano. I understand sports are emotional, and some people are more emotional than others, but Zambrano has had chance after chance to prove he is a "changed man" on the field only to find new ways to let both his team, and his fans, down. The latest coming in the form of his little tantrum in Atlanta.

The Cubs went on to lose 10-4, and somewhat overlooked is that Dan Uggla(notes) extended his hitting streak to 32 games, hitting two home runs. Speaking of streaks, Starlin Castro(notes), with his home run in the ninth, gave the Cubs their tenth straight game with a long ball.

Concerning Zambrano, there just isn't much left to say. He seems to come up with different shenanigans each time he makes headlines. It's a shame given what he's shown he can do. Perhaps this latest stunt will be the one that puts the Cubs over the edge and take him up on his proposal of retirement. We'll see.

CATHAY Pacific said it had launched a ''full investigation'' into photos allegedly showing a flight attendant performing oral sex on a pilot aboard an aircraft of the Hong Kong carrier.

Several pixellated photos of the act have been published in local Chinese-language media, showing the woman in a red outfit resembling Cathay's cabin crew uniform giving oral sex to a man who the reports said was a pilot.

''We are conducting a full investigation into the matter and there are some indications that the female shown in the photos may be a member of our cabin crew,'' a Cathay spokeswoman said in a statement.

''Our investigations are continuing and we have nothing further to add at this stage,'' she said, without commenting on the identity of the man, whose clothing in the published photo did not appear to be a Cathay pilot uniform.

''There is no evidence whatsoever to suggest that the act took place inflight, and there are no reasons to believe that any safety breaches have occured,'' the spokeswoman added
A spokesman for the firm was quoted as saying in separate comments to the South China Morning Post newspaper: ''One of the photos appears to have been taken inside an aircraft cockpit. There is no way to tell conclusively whether the photo was taken while the aircraft was on the ground or airborne.''

Reports in Hong Kong media said the pictures had been widely circulated on an online forum for pilots, and added that the duo in the photos were a couple.

According to the Chinese-language Apple Daily, the pilot - a foreigner - has issued a legal letter to the newspaper saying the photos had been stolen from his personal computer and that he had lodged a police report.

Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong's top airline, has 13,000 staff around the world, including more than 8000 cabin crew and 4000 working in airports, according to its website.

Latest issue of Japanese magazine, Bubka (known for publishing accurate scandals) has published pictures of Aya Hirano in bed with what seems to be a 'post-sex' photo. According to sources, the reason behind why she was "sacked" by her label was due to her SCANDALOUS affairs with her band mates.

Many are convinced that the guy in the picture with her is none other than, "Katsundo" who's a 35 year old guitarist in Aya's band. Further revelations by insiders within her agency include, Aya being very "feisty" with her bandmates that she "slept" with 3/4 of her bandmates except for the bassist. As a result she was reported on and the three who slept with her got fired.

Sexy Photo Scandals: A Celebrity's Best Nightmare

We see London, we see France, we see so much more than a star's underpants! Nothing brings on a bigger gasp than when news breaks that there's another celebrity caught in a nude photo scandal. As the initial shock wears off and the countless questions start rolling in (Why would any celebrity pose nude? How big is it? Are those real?), the situation becomes a celebrity's worst nightmare.

But at the same time, when a body part is inexplicably exposed for the world to see, it can be the biggest career boost a star doesn't need to hire a publicist for. (Other than for damage control, of course.) Here's why.

Scandalous Photos Change the Subject
It seems like every week there's a new celebrity photo scandal just waiting to jump out of the vaults. This week, Christina Aguilera fell victim as rumors started circulating that hundreds of raunchy photos of the singer, with celeb friends like Nicole Richie and boyfriend Matt Rutler, were found on a memory card at an upscale hotel Xtina stayed at in France.

Although the photos have yet to be revealed, this was exactly the kind of press Christina needed. She's had a less-than-stellar few months -- she botched the national anthem at the Super Bowl, fell on stage at the Grammys and got arrested for public intoxication. As a result, Christina was getting attention for everything but her amazing vocals. When knowledge of these photos surfaced, yes, it did bring more focus to her negative actions, but until the evidence is out there for the world to see, it's all hearsay. The proof is already in the pudding for her past wrongdoings, and it's time for the public to start talking about something new.

Chris Brown is also a great example of nude photos leaking at the perfect time. Ever since he got in a domestic dispute with Rihanna in February 2009, the only attention the press was giving him, whether it was good or bad, had to do with that fateful night. As Brown geared up to promote his new album 'F.A.M.E.,' the last thing he wanted to deal with was more questions about his situation with Rihanna. "It's pointless," he tweeted.

Coincidentally, just two weeks before his CD dropped, nude photos of him also dropped. Instantly, all attention was diverted from Rihanna -- the photos were the perfect distraction to get people talking about something else. (Well, that was until he smashed a window at 'Good Morning America'...)

Nude Pictures Help Shed an Innocent Image
The transition from sweet teen star to edgy adult star is not easy. (Just ask Mischa Barton.) But take it from celebs like Vanessa Hudgens -- the process becomes a lot quicker when nude photos of you are revealed. The 'High School Musical' star just had another set of photos leak -- the first set being in 2007 -- and it sealed the deal that she isn't the same sweet girl Zac Efron courted for five years. Hudgens has left the halls of East High and hasn't looked back.

The "Hey! Remember Me?!" Factor
You don't need to be an A-list celebrity for people to buzz about your leaked photos because let's face it, a scandal, no matter how big, is a scandal -- there will always be interest. Case in point? 'Twilight' star Ashley Greene. In August 2009, a year before she broke teenage hearts by dating Joe Jonas, full-frontal photos of her surfaced on the web. Suddenly, she went from "that girl from 'Twilight' with the short hair that's not Kristen Stewart" to "'Twilight' star Ashley Greene."

Same goes for model Amber Rose. Before her birthday suit photos surfaced online, Amber was solely known as Kanye West's arm candy. Now, people actually know her name -- and what her badonkadonk looks like.

If All Else Fails, Just Say "Oops"
Does the phrase "pulling a Paris" ring a bell? Posed private photos aren't the only kind of naked pics that will keep a star's name alive. Simply going commando, accidentally wearing a see-through shirt or donning a low-cut dress that has potential for a nip slip are sure-fire ways to get people chatting. One false step out of a limo or a quick breeze, and a star's fun night out turns into next day's headlines. Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan and Miley Cyrus have all had "oops" moments that were splashed all over the news.

'A foolish fling and vicious bedroom catfight cost me everything': Dubai yacht broker locked up for illegal sex reveals the traumatic fallout from the scandal

'A foolish fling and vicious bedroom catfight cost me everything': Dubai yacht broker locked up for illegal sex reveals the traumatic fallout from the scandal

How Danielle Spencer must have enjoyed her first glimpse of her date’s luxury apartment. There was the vast expanse of Italian marble, the fashionable minimalist decor and the floor-to-ceiling windows beyond which Dubai’s extraordinary cityscape pulsed with money and power.

So captivated was she by wealthy banker Toby Carroll and his fabulous Gulf lifestyle, there was one lifestyle accessory she crucially failed to notice: his furious on-off girlfriend.

Danielle was naked and in bed with Mr Carroll when Priscila Ferreira burst in. The catfight that ensued across the luxury Egyptian cotton sheets involved hair-pulling and the hurling of designer shoes. But what began as a lads-mag fantasy tussle degenerated when Priscila grabbed a kitchen knife obliging Danielle to barricade herself in a bathroom. It was an unedifying scene and, had the drama taken place in Europe or America, it would have remained just that. But this was the United Arab Emirates and – in her eagerness to enjoy Mr
Carroll’s hospitality – Danielle had overlooked another significant detail: here sex outside of marriage is forbidden.
The Emiratis may turn a blind eye to the ex-patriot community’s sexual mores if they stay private but they refuse to have them freely displayed. So when Brazilian model Priscila, 25, complained to Dubai police about her disloyal lover and his willing accomplice, a 31-year-old former lapdancer, there was only ever going to be one outcome – a custody suite for three.

Now, for the first time, Danielle has spoken in detail about that night and the month she spent incarcerated as a result in the notoriously tough Bur Dubai police station.

Her story tells us much about the type of buccaneering woman who gambles whatever assets she has – be they brains or looks – to make money and perhaps even an advantageous marriage in the Gulf. It serves also as a reminder that the higher the stakes, the greater the potential loss.

Danielle says: ‘I thought I was going to die in that prison cell, that once I was in I’d never
get out. The worst thing was the not knowing what was happening, the sense I was being
forgotten. After three weeks I had an interview with the chief prosecutor who led me to believe my release was imminent. Then I was informed I could be held for a further 30 days. It was
devastating.‘On the night in question I was breathalysed and I was negative. As we had not actually had sex, I thought that they would just release Toby and me. But at one point a policeman turned
to me and said, “You are going to jail.” I broke down. I remember weeping, “But I’ve done nothing wrong.” It was the moment I realised my life in Dubai would be ruined.’

That life in Dubai, a place where self reinvention – if not compulsory – is certainly commonplace, is not one she would wish to lose. And it was perhaps her determination to cleave to it rather to return to her modest roots in Hull that compelled her to take the risks she did that night.

For there’s no varnishing the vulgar truth that Danielle was willing to go home with Toby Carroll on their second date. She justifies it by revealing that he had told her he had ended his romance with Priscila and that he was free to be with her. She says he had already nicknamed her Kitty Cat and told her she had ‘hijacked my mind’ – but in reality her decision was not just impetuous but also illegal.

The pair had met and exchanged phone numbers at a party shortly before Christmas. Soon afterwards Carroll, a New Zealander, took Danielle to the Yacht Club. It’s a Dubai landmark, one of the city’s oldest and poshest hangouts. (The only sea breeze you’ll catch there is the cocktail.) After a further date at the same venue Danielle chose to, in Dubai parlance, seal the deal.

She recalls: ‘The evening had been wonderful, we’d been out to dinner and talked about our lives in Dubai. We had a lot in common. He was smoking-hot, charming, intelligent, had a good job and a top-of-the-range Porsche. He was quite a catch.’And that was the heart of the matter. Carroll was a catch, a passport to another world for a girl who left school at 16 to sell double glazing.

He invited Danielle back to his apartment for coffee and within a few short minutes they were in a passionate clinch on the sofa. They made their way into his bedroom where, naked and engrossed by the matters in hand, they failed to notice Priscila come in.

Danielle says: ‘I saw this white floaty garment and heard a loud Latino voice. I thought the TV had come on. Suddenly I felt someone land on my back and grab my hair. Toby yelled, “Stop it Priscila. What are you doing?” ’

So did Danielle fight back? Try to escape? No. ‘I didn’t move, because I had just paid £250 for hair extensions and I didn’t want them falling out two days before Christmas.’ (Well, a girl needs to look her best when she’s reeling in a catch).

But Priscila, unwilling to relinquish the man who until a few hours earlier had been her own entree to Dubai’s money and status-obsessed society, turned nasty. ‘She bit me hard on my arm,’ Danielle says. ‘Toby was trying to pull her off me and she went to take her shoe off so she could hit us with it. I wriggled free and dashed into the bathroom and locked the door.’

As Danielle cowered in the en suite, she heard Priscila swearing and trashing the flat. Finally she heard her utter the chilling words: ‘I’m getting a knife and I’m going to kill her.’

Carroll called the police. He and Danielle told them they did not want to press charges but needed help removing Priscila from the flat. She retaliated by telling officers she had caught the couple having sex and counter-accusing them of assault. She added that she and Carroll were engaged. All three were bundled into a police van and taken to the city’s Jebel Ali police station.

Danielle says: ‘As I sat in the apartment among all the broken glass and debris which Priscila had created, I never for a minute dreamt it would be me who would end up behind bars. I felt that I was the innocent party, the victim. The police said we would have to go with them to the station so we could sign release papers, meaning the case would be dropped. I thought it was just a formality, that I would be going to work the next day.

‘But as I realised Priscila would say anything to save her own skin I went cold inside and then I started shaking and crying. We were taken for a medical examination by a British doctor. He didn’t say anything but the expression on his face was enough. He looked at me as if to say, “It’s two in the morning. What are you doing here in this state, a respectable girl like you?”

‘They cuffed Priscila and me together and put us in the van to go to Bur Dubai prison. I thought, “This is it, I’m in really big trouble.” Toby was sitting in the front of the van and Priscila and I were locked together in the back. There was absolute silence, no one spoke.

‘We pulled up outside this grim white building, with an armed guard at the barrier. I knew there weren’t going to be any release papers.

‘Priscila and I were led down a corridor with five large cells off it. There must have been about 70 women in the cells and it was very noisy with people shouting and crying. We were given a narrow bunk and told to share.’Danielle is the kind of woman who makes the best of her circumstances. So, shackled to a woman who just hours earlier had threatened to stab her, she decided they should team up.

‘I put my hand on Priscila’s shoulder and said, “I’m so sorry, I didn’t even know you existed.” I realised we were in this together and that we would have to get along to survive.

‘A lot of the time we would sit on our bunk hugging our knees under our chins, whispering in low voices about how we got there and how we were going to get out. Eventually she realised that we would all have to tell the truth if we were ever going to be released. Some of the women were in for assault and one was in for murder. I felt very scared. One night a fight broke out with women punching each other and pulling hair.

‘Against them, Priscila seemed to be the only one I could trust. At least I knew her background and what she’d done to get in here.’ Danielle does not see the delicious irony of that statement – but perhaps that’s unsurprising given the rigours of her daily life in jail.

‘It was a dingy basement with Artex ceilings and walls and no daylight. I couldn’t exercise because of the overcrowding. You could have a shower whenever you liked, but there were always massive queues and sometimes you waited all day to get washed. I wore the same clothes that I came in with for over a month. At night Priscila and I hugged each other for comfort and talked about Toby. I am surprised I kept it together for 32 days.’

Their release from prison came last Saturday when they were bailed pending further enquiries. ‘Priscila and I jumped for joy and started screaming while all the other inmates were clapping and cheering for us. I went round kissing every woman in there goodbye and wished them well. It was very emotional,’ says Danielle.

‘I never want to go back inside. I can’t face it. Yet I know there is a chance when my case comes up that I might have to. I am just hoping the allegations against me will be dropped when they realise I am telling the truth.’

In the last week, however, Danielle’s relief at being freed has turned to despair as the implications of her arrest for a sex offence in an Islamic country have became apparent. For six years she has enjoyed a succession of lucrative property jobs in the Emirates, most recently selling yachts and private jets to billionaires in Dubai. She admits: ‘Even though I feel I’ve done nothing wrong, I’ve lost my job and my reputation here is ruined. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to work in Dubai again.’

For her this is a catastrophic loss. It is hard to overestimate how much – and not just in fiscal terms – Danielle’s £100,000-a-year pay packet meant to her.

She was raised in Hull, an unlovely place where what little the German bombers left intact has been damaged by industrial decline and social deprivation. As a teenager she sought to better herself by joining the Territorial Army and, with a gift for sales, brought home the then impressive sum of £200 a week flogging double glazing.

But then, in the time-honoured tradition of many a pretty girl from an impoverished background, she embarked on a new life. Pictures plucked at random from her photograph album show her swimming on the Barrier Reef in Australia, piranha fishing in Brazil and relaxing in New Zealand during a world trip she funded working first as a croupier and then by lapdancing in gentlemen’s clubs.

For Danielle both jobs were preferable to living in a city whose unemployment rates are among the highest in the country and whose municipal twinning with Freetown in Sierra Leone invites jocular comparisons with war-torn West Africa.

She recalls her first lapdancing audition, for the Spearmint Rhino club in Birmingham, when she was 20. ‘I drank two bottles of wine beforehand to settle my nerves. It was quite an ordeal having to take off my clothes on stage, but I was told I was a natural and one of the best dancers they’d ever seen. Because I’d spent so long in the Territorial Army, I was used to assault courses and going up a pole held no fears for me.’

Danielle swiftly acquired a portfolio of clients – some celebrities and others well-heeled lawyers and bankers. Soon she moved to Stringfellows in London and from there she transferred to its sister club in Paris where she earned up to £1,700 a night. She says Brazilian football legend Ronaldinho and French player Robert Pires, who plays for Aston Villa in the Premier League, were among her appreciative audience.

Danielle lapdanced her way across the USA and had transferred to Spearmint Rhino in Melbourne, Australia, when she snatched the chance to relocate to Abu Dhabi and found work in the property business.

But the real estate crash last year plunged her into unemployment and debt and she returned to lapdancing in Australia for four months.

‘Once I had earned enough money to settle my debts I returned to Dubai and landed my dream job selling yachts. Everything seemed to be working out, especially when I met Toby and realised he was such a catch,’ she recalls.

No wonder then that she was willing to sleep with him so soon and in explicit contradiction of Dubai’s laws. As she headed into her fourth decade, Danielle must have been wondering what course her life would take next.

A future in Dubai must have seemed like such a good bet, a gamble worth taking. But unwary
Westerners would do well to remember that it is a metropolis sprung from a desert. And like all deserts its golden promise can be nothing more than a mirage.
