Security Breach at Honda Canada

Thousands Account Honda owners in Canada Leaks

Personal information from more than 283 thousand Honda consumers in Canada reported have leaked, a company representative said this weekend. As quoted by Reuters, Honda Canada said the stolen data included names, addresses, vehicle identification number and in some cases found a number of financial accounts.

Honda revealed that leaked data is not the kind commonly used for theft or fraud, such as date of birth, phone number, email address, credit card numbers, bank account numbers, driver license numbers, social insurance number, or dollar amount of financial payment.

The company said the information collected started in 2009 through a series of programs that encourage consumers a letter to Honda and Acura owners to register on the website and myAcura myHonda. Honda said the leak occurred recently.

Toronto Star reported that Honda was first noticed suspicious activity in e-commerce website in late February. Unusual volume occurred on the website, including "some dark attempt to access account information." Honda did not want to comment on the details provided by the newspaper. The company has informed all affected customers that information leaks
